Like many cemetery motifs, there is a lot of debate about the meaning of the sphere, or even if there is any meaning to it at all. The sphere is definitely one of the cemetery motifs where there is quite a bit of controversy. Some sources say that the sphere in the cemetery is purely decorative. Others say that the sphere is the 3-D representation of the "circle" which symbolizes life and eternity. However, others say that the sphere symbolizes the soul waiting for resurrection.
