Wait! Buried With His Bike??

Yes, you can take it with you! Billy Standley of Mechanicsburg, Ohio, became famous for his unconventional burial in 2014. A lifelong Harley-Davidson enthusiast, Standley meticulously planned his funeral for years before his passing, ensuring his final journey would reflect his love for motorcycles. He was buried seated astride his 1967 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide, encased in a custom-made plexiglass casket.

Standley worked with his family to design the see-through casket, which allowed him to be displayed on his bike as if he were riding it. The casket was reinforced with wood and steel to support the combined weight of Standley and the motorcycle. His family supported his wishes, and the burial became a community event, with many attendees marveling at the unique send-off.

The burial took place at Fairview Cemetery in Mutual, Ohio, and required a special preparation process, including a large burial plot to accommodate the casket and a crane to lower it into the ground. Standley’s unusual final wish was his way of showcasing his passion for motorcycles, ensuring he could take one last ride into eternity.
