Fredric and the Pringles Can
Dr. Fredric John Baur Jr. was an American chemist and food storage technician best known for inventing the iconic Pringles can. He developed the canister's unique tubular design in the 1960s while working for Procter & Gamble, aiming to create a container that would keep the chips fresh and prevent them from breaking.
What makes his story especially unique is that, upon his death in 2008, he had part of his cremated remains buried in a Pringles can at his request. His family honored this wish by placing a portion of his ashes inside a Pringles can before burying them in an urn alongside the rest of his remains in Springfield Township, Ohio.
His request was a tribute to his proudest professional achievement, and the story has since become a quirky piece of pop culture history.
